Who is ND Burns?

The Intersection of People, Process, and Art

I believe that Human Resources should focus on the human first and the resource second. My career is dedicated to helping people navigate their relationship with their organizations in a way that yields the best outcomes for their careers, their health, and their lives.

Currently, I serve as an HR Operations Specialist at Keurig Dr Pepper while completing my studies in HR and Project Management at SNHU. Whether I am auditing data or designing an employee experience, I am driven by a simple belief: how a corporation treats its people is the direct barometer of its success.

Why the "Ops" in HR Matters

Many see HR Operations as a "back-office" function, but I see it as Experience Architecture. My approach is defined by a unique perspective gained from my work as a resin artist and entrepreneur.

In resin art, the smallest error—a missed ratio or a rushed cure time—can ruin a piece. I bring that same Process Discipline and Risk Management to HR. Just as a resin pour requires the right environment, timing, and sequence, a successful organization requires precise payroll, compliant benefits, and seamless onboarding.

I don't just execute tasks; I own processes. I understand that a "small" data error in a system has a downstream impact on a real person’s life. My goal is to build systems that aren't just functional, but empathetic.

Two Quirky Crafts: Creativity with Intention

When I’m not refining HR strategies, I’m in my studio. As the co-owner of Two Quirky Crafts, I create functional resin art, jewelry, and home decor.

What drew me to resin is the challenge of its permanence. It is a medium that requires patience, restraint, and an eye for patterns. When I design a piece, I am constantly thinking about the person who will eventually hold it. I feel a deep sense of pride and joy when an idea I’ve brought into the world resonates with someone else. This creative outlet keeps me agile, comfortable with ambiguity, and constantly honing my craft toward excellence.

Beyond the Desk and the Studio

Building a life is the ultimate project. I am a dedicated wife and a proud dog mom, and I find my balance in the quiet moments with my family—whether we are deep into a video game, watching a movie, or planning our next travel adventure.

I am a lifelong learner and a maker at heart. Whether I’m crocheting a blanket for a friend, drawing, or writing for my blog, The Human in HR, I am committed to the idea that we can achieve great things when we pair a disciplined mind with a creative spirit.

Let’s create something.
